New Computer Setup

Finally, you bought a computer. It doesn't matter what computer it is laptop or desktop, you have to complete few steps to get it work.

After you unpacked your computer and found installation guide list, please read it carefully and follow step by step installation process.

In approximately 20 - 45 minutes the installation process will be completed and you can use your computer now.

However, all manufactures such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Acer already preinstalled bunch of trial software you will never use or buy. Some of them placed on a desktop of your computer as shortcuts to internet webpage, others are installed to your system and could be uninstalled manually.

Review all icons and folders on your desktop and decide if you want to keep them here.

How to check if icon is shortcut?

Use the right click of your mouse to select icon. In pop-up menu select Properties. Click to General tab if needed and if you find the Type of file: Shortcut (.link), then you can delete this icon.

To delete an icon, use a right click menu or drag and drop to Recycle Bin.

Uninstall Programs

After your desktop is clean, next step is to uninstall unneeded programs.

Go to Control Panel and select Uninstall a program. If you can't find it, you are in Classic View, so find the icon Programs and Futures and double click it.

Now you should see the listing of installed on your computer programs.

There is no simple solution to divide needed programs from unneeded.

In this listing you should see the Publisher column. You should pay attention to unknown publishers or just a blank for particular program. If there is no publisher, try to find the name of this program in Google search to get more information about this application. Then try to find this program in All Programs and launch it. This can be a preinstalled trial of some program and after you run it this application may prompt to complete installation or purchase this product.

You may keep applications of trusted publishers like Microfoft Corporation, Apple, CyberLink, SunMicrosystems, Mozilla, NVIDIA, Skype, and etc. if those applications are not trials.

If application is a trial and you want to buy it, you have to lunch it and complete the purchase.

You may also use it as a trial for predefined period to try, but most of them are not fully working.

To uninstall application, click on in it and select Uninstall/Change at the top of listing, then follow uninstall process. Each application has different uninstall interface, so read carefully before you click Next.
